Review week 47; goals, blog and GTD

On Sundays I’m looking back on the past week. How did I perform towards my goals? How did my blog do? And how am I keeping up with my GTD system?

Blog performance
This week was a good week. Lots of articles published, and I finished the NLP Presuppositions series.

One of my articles got featured in a Blog Carnival on Life Editing, it’s been a while since I’ve been involved in those.

I’ve been around the place as well and engaging in various discussions on entrepreneurship, that have me thinking still. Check out some of them:

The discussions are ongoing, join in if you like!

Stats are in the table as usual. No big changes really.

Progress towards goals
This week was a NLP week. I worked a lot on my Practitioners training, with three days of training and two days of preparation. Mid December is the testing, so if all goes well (and it will) I’ll be certified by then. There’s not a lot of progress on the other goals though.

Material State
1. Garden redone by 12-2007 No progress.
2. 2nd floor redone by 12-2007 Material has been delivered, can make progress now.
3. €500 passive income by 03-2008 This is not going very well, but there’s plenty of time. My blog is still too unknown to break the barrier here.
Active State
4. NLP Practitioner certification by 12-2007 I’ve been practicing this week. And studying, so solid progress here!
5. 2500 subscribers by 12-2007 This will be tricky…
6. Given first training as trainer by 03-2008 Ideas are forming, nothing solid just yet, but the juices are flowing.
Social State
7. Rising early ACCOMPLISHED Not this week though, battling an upcoming flu, so need all the sleep I can get.
8. Be in contact with friends and family 4 days a week Yes! This week was a success, I made a slight change to the goal. Accomplished if 10 weeks in a row are a success
Emotional State
9. Review mission and goals weekly ACCOMPLISHED
10. Quarterly retreat Starts January 2008
Physical State
11. Workout 5 days a week Twice this week, no running though
12. Run half a marathon in 10-2008 No progress.

Getting Things Done – weekly review
This section needs an upgrade. I need to redefine how I want to work with GTD, because I’m not keeping to the system.

I set up my PDA with SOTI Pocket Controller and Listpro and started enthusiastically, as you can read in this section last week. But even with SOTI the damn thing is just too small to manage big lists. And I hate big lists anyway. So I dumped the system as enthusiastically as I started it.

But then I read Zen to Done again, the ebook by Leo of Zen Habits. And I recognized a lot of the issues I have with GTD in his book. The best thing I learned from GTD was not the system, but a couple of habit changes, which are effectively preventing me from needing a big system. In Zen to Done these habits can be found, and there are a couple more that I’m going to adopt.

So this section is going to be more a Zen to Done section than a Getting Things Done section. For now, I’ll rename it to both, ZTD is accompanied by the concepts of GTD after all.

Hoi Lodewijk.

- Stephan
